Links of Chakpo Ri are faintly visible . Tapering the roofs of the Jokhang ( Tsuglag Khang ) The Jokhang is the most sacred temple in Tibet and is the center of the city . The name means' The Lord 's House ' and this also gave the name to the city , Lhasa means' God 's place . " The Jokhang is the oldest Buddhist temple in Tibet dating from the 7th century and is the center of Lamaism . She is in the 7th century by King Srongtsen Gampo ( reigned from 641-649 ) built . It houses the most sacred object of Tibet, a statue of Jowo Sakyamuni . The second wife of the king, the Chinese princess Wencheng , has this as part of her dowry brought to Tibet .
